Prices for DSL and cable are rising, the economy’s in the doldrums, and many people have no interest in using a broadband connection to download music, listen to streamed audio, or watch postage-stamp sized video. Small wonder that more DSL and cable subscribers are cancelling their accounts than ever before. I heard one prediction that there would be a net decline in DSL subscribers nationwide this year. SBC, Pacific Bell’s parent company, is going to reduce its broadband capital expenditures by twenty percent next year. Not quite the broadband future we expected, eh?
