Linksys equipment has become ubiquitous in homes and small businesses. Its inexpensive routers and wireless equipment are stacked to the ceiling in any store that sells computer peripherals.
Cisco Systems has been looking for a way to break into the consumer networking market, and it announced today that it is acquiring Linksys. Cisco promises not to shake up the Linksys product lineup or brand name, but promises are easy. Cisco had a spat with Dell last year, so it’s certainly possible that Dell will stop selling Linksys equipment.
