Time for our annual reminder that most e-mail warnings of bad things are false, ranging from the intentionally harmful to benign urban myths. An e-mail message is circulating widely about an alleged phone scam, where pressing the wrong button during a recorded message results in alarming phone bills. It’s just another hoax, nothing more.
As always, don’t forward messages to everyone in your address book without checking them out first. This Urban Legends page is the one I turn to for information, or just for an occasional chuckle.
