Microsoft has given an early look at an upgrade to Windows Live OneCare. It’s in open beta testing but I don’t recommend that you install it yet.
For the most part there are only modest changes, but there are two important improvements in the backup system.
- Backups can be scheduled more frequently than once a week – a big step forward in protecting your files automatically.
- Backups can be stored on a local networked computer, in addition to an external hard drive.
There’s better integration of the antivirus and antispyware protection and a few other modest enhancements. No details yet but my guess is that it will be rolled out automatically to OneCare subscribers when it is finalized.
