The New York Times has an article today reporting on a British survey that underscored another gaping security hole in our computer lives – namely, that most people don’t think about computer security at all.
A man posted outside a London subway station at rush hour offered a chocolate bar to random passers-by if they would reveal the password they used to log on to the Internet. More than 7 out of 10 took the offer and supplied their passwords.
Another telling number: almost half of the people polled thought they would provide their password to a telephone caller claiming to be from their employer’s tech support department.
Security matters. If you’re an attorney in Sonoma County, I’ll be talking about computer and Internet security at the Sonoma County Bar Association on April 28 at 12:15 – call the SCAB at (707) 542-1190 for more information!
